Duration : 4-6 Months; 15 hours per week; Standard business hours
NOTE: This is an unpaid internship. BACKGROUND : The International
Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian
crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work
in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity,
and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. ?SCOPE OF WORK :
The Immigration Program Intern will work closely with the
Immigration Department to serve refugees and members of the local
immigrant community. LEARNING OUTCOMES : The intern will develop a
working understanding of U.S. immigration process/policy,
especially as it applies to refugees. The intern will have the
opportunity to work directly with immigration legal
representatives, gaining insight into real-world legal services.
The intern will gain a strong resume booster for law school,
graduate school, or NGO work RESPONSIBILITIES: Assisting
Immigration Legal Representatives to complete immigration
applications for Green Cards, Citizenship, and other applications
as needed. Making copies of petitions and evidence and uploading to
case file. Completing case notes related to client case files.
Working one-on-one with clients to complete applications.
Conducting follow-up phone calls to clients. REQUIREMENTS : Current
undergraduate, or less than one year out of school Fluency in one
of the following languages strongly preferred: Armenian, Farsi, or
Spanish Familiar with the mission of IRC and willing to represent
it appropriately. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to
communicate effectively Ability to work well with a culturally
diverse staff. Prior experience in immigration is a plus. In-office
